PENYBANC Panther Brittony Price took her fantastic form in the 15-man game into rugby’s reduced version as she teamed up with the Flamingos - Carmarthen Warriors women’s sevens side – and claimed the Chester Sevens trophy.

Price claimed two tries in the final – and four in the semi-final – as the Flamingos saw off Scotty’s Soldiers, a charity side made up of serving soldiers, to lift the trophy.

The Flamingos began the day against the hosts’ second string - Chester Blues – and ran out convincing 54-0 winners.

The second round saw their first encounter with the Soldiers – the Army team having sent the Flamingos home from last year’s tournament.

In a physical encounter, the Flamingos looked to have the edge with a try from Heather Rees only for Scotty’s to level.

With the whistle approaching, Rees fed Kidwelly’s Keely Evans who set up Angharad Williams for the match-winning score.

Vctory ensured the Flamingos topped their group and met Colwyn Bay in the knockout phase.

With the pressure on, Price stepped into the limelight.

The smiling assassin grabbed four tries to demolish the North Walians while Rees added another two to secure the Carmarthenshire side a rematch with Scotty’s in the final.

The Soldiers left the Flamingos reeling and stormed to a 12-0 half-time lead, but a rousing interval team-talk from manager Sara Davies saw them bounce back in style.

Price again stepped up with two tries – as did Rees – with Rachael Norris kicking three conversions to secure the trophy.

Davies said: “I’m so proud of the girls. It’s great to come away with a main tournament win in only our second season.

The mix of girls really worked well, it’s great that the three clubs in the region can come together and provide a quality sevens team who get results.”

The Flamingos travel to New Quay Sevens on June 29 with Price looking to add to her haul.

Squad: Brittony Price (Penybanc), Rachael Norris, Alice James, Cath Davies, Angharad Williams, Heather Rees (all Whitland), Keely Evans (Kidwelly).
