Gwaun cae Gurwen 89 Ystalyfera 60

Gwaun cae Gurwen played host to Ystalyfera in the Neath and District Bowls League.

On a humid day at Parc y Werin, the Waun took full advantage of the fast-running green to lead 22–10 after five ends.

It was clear from the early stages that the pace of the green was going to be a major factor with even some of the home players struggling to come to terms with the conditions.

However, by the tea-break at the completion of ten ends the Waun had extended their lead to 45–30.

After tea, the green‘s pace quickened even further, allowing the Waun to maintain their lead and claim a comfortable 89–60 victory.

The win saw the Waun claim 11 points to Ystalyfera’s three.

Next week the Waun travel to Ystradgynlais already knowing that they will be missing at least three players from the win over Ystalyfera.
