Neath and District Bowls

The Gnoll 43 Gwaun cae Gurwen 49.75

The Waun travelled to the Gnoll of Neath for their third game of the season and claimed their all-important first win.

Victory was all the sweeter for the visitors who – due to various circumstances – were once again forced to play a man short on Rink Number One.

On what appeared a good surface, the Waun won the toss but trailed by 15–13 after five ends.

With weather conditions gradually deteriorating, the visitors gradually reduced the deficit and took the advantage to lead 28–27 after ten ends and going into the tea interval.

With the weather dictating the game after the restart and two of the hosts Rink Two four falling and injuring themselves, it was agreed to curtail the game to fifteen ends.

As a result, the Waun were able to run out 49.75-43 winners.

The highlight of the day came on Rink Four where, despite trailing 10–5 after ten ends, the Waun launched a stunning comeback to secure a 14–12 win.

The fine team performance ensured the Waun picked up 12 points to the Gnoll’s two . Next week, the Waun entertain Ystalyfera.
