Llanelli and District Bowls

Llanelli Steel 69 Cwmamman 71.5

Cwmamman’s bowlers made history by including the first lady ever to play in their mens’ league team as Lynne Bray enjoyed an excellent debut in Cwm’s opening Llanelli League fixture at Llanelli Steel.

Lynne was included in skip Dyfed Lewis’ rink, which - despite being a player short - still managed a comfortable win after the required deductions.

Cwmamman put behind their Carruthers Shield frustrations to run out winners, taking three of the four rinks.

After 15 ends, John Jones’ Rink One led 14-10 while James Davies’ rink were 16-10 ahead.

Dyfed Lewis’ three were cruising at 23-8 and only Byron Davies’ four were suffering a bad day at the office, trailing by 13 after 15 ends before ultimately losing 25-10.

Cwmamman took ten league points to open their account for the season.

Rink scores:

Rink One: Tony Bray, Peter Lees, Matthew Edwards, John Sam Jones (skip) 22, D Thomas (Llanelli skip) 12.

Rink Two: John Milbourne, Alec Leslie, Alan Thomas, James Davies (skip) 20, I Kearney 18.

Rink Three: Lynne Bray, Gareth Williams, Dyfed Lewis (skip) 19.5, G Howell 14.

Rink Four: Norman Raeburn, Simon Hawker, Alun Morris, Byron Davies (skip) 10, D Stanley 25.

Cwmamman will hope to continute their winning start to the league with a home fixture against Parc Howard on Saturday.

However, all eyes will be on the weather as the waterlogged Cwmamman Green has been unplayable in recent weeks.

The situation has forced the WBA Carruthers Shield against Cross Hands to be abandoned despite numerous attempts to replay the fixture and, as a result, both sides have as a result been thrown out of next season’s competition.

Both clubs are looking to appeal the decision.
