Welsh Cup
Ammanford (174-8) lost to Pontarddulais (227-6)
Ammanford crashed out of the Welsh Cup at the first hurdle when they lost miserably at Pontarddulais on Sunday.
Bont got off to a hurtling start with 98 coming from the first 20 overs, thanks to openers Matthew Carey (29) and Glamorgan’s David Lloyd (63).
The damage was exacerbated by Dion Holden then hitting an unbeaten 82. Ammanford must have been relieved that Bont only got to 227 for six after their allotted 40 overs.
Alun Evans bowled stoically for three wickets at the cost of 35 runs.
Ammanford were never up with the asking rate, despite contributions from Rhys Davies (44), Evans (33) and Matthew Fisher (20).
They gave up on 174 for eight. One less competition to worry about.
Next Sunday they return to Clydach for the SWCA T20. The match begins at 1.30pm.
