Llanelli and District Bowls
Carruthers Shield
Blue Anchor 94 Cwmamman Bowls Club 60.75
Having again failed to fulfil their home fixture against Cross Hands due to the Garnant green remaining waterlogged in midweek, Cwmamman’s latest expedition took them to Penclawdd to face Blue Anchor in the Carruthers Shield.
The Amman Valley were desperate for a morale-boosting performance and battled well, but were ultimately beaten on the day.
Cwmamman’s highlight came on skip Dyfed Lewis’ rink, which, despite playing a man-short and therefore losing a quarter of their total points, still managed to win 18.75-13.
Meanwhile, John Jones’ rink led by a shot after 15 ends only to slip up on the final two ends and lose by six.
Rink scores: (Home skips first)
Rink One: E.Davies 13; John Milbourne, Peter Lees, Dyfed Lewis (skip) 18.75.
Rink Two: Keith Davies 25; Norman Raeburn, Simon Hawker, Matthew Edwards, Byron Davies (skip) 14.
Rink Three: B Rees 34; James Davies, Thomas Jones, Gareth Williams, Peter Jones (skip) 12.
Rink Four: Home Skip 22; Tony Bray, Alec Leslie, Alun Morris, John Sam Jones (skip) 16.
Cwmamman hope to finally play their twice-postponed Carruthers fixture against Cross Hands on Wednesday evening before opening their league campaign with a trip to Llanelli Steel on Saturday.
