Gwaun cae Gurwen 49.5 Ystradgynlais 36

Gwaun cae Gurwen played their first league game of the season when they entertained Ystradgynlais, who chose to field three lady players, only to see the came cut short by the weather.

The Waun were themselves forced to play one short on Rink Four due to illnesses amongst their ranks.

When the game started the weather conditions appeared playable despite a persistent drizzle, but as the match progressed so did the weather.

After five ends Ystrad led 17–13 and were in front on all four rinks except for the Number Two.

On completing ten ends when tea was taken, the Waun had staged a fantastic turnaround to lead 36–34.

However, after the interval the weather deteriorated and green conditions gradually worsened until it was agreed to abandon the game after the completion of 12 ends with the Waun leading 49.5–36 and ahead on three rinks leading – the fourth saw the sides at level pegging.

Ystrad will now be forced to return in the near future to complete the remaining nine ends.
