Neath and District Open Cup – Rnd Three
Ynysmeudwy Athletic 0 Giants Grave 8
Giants Grave romped into the fourth round of the Open Cup after inflicting Athletic’s heaviest defeat of the season.
The visitors strolled into a 5-0 interval lead as Ynys battled in vain to make a contest of it.
Athletic now take on Glynneath in the Premier Division Cup semi-final on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, the Athletic’s second string earned a comfortable 6-1 league victory over Seven Sisters on Friday.
The hosts took an early lead through Daniel Picton and the same man was on hand to double the advantage before the interval/
Kieran Williams added a third after the break before Picton notched his third and fourth to put the game beyond doubt. Josh Danahar made it six.
Ynys, hot on the heels of league leaders Giants Grave, look confident of promotion with two games remaining.
They travel to Ynysygwern on Thursday evening.
In the midweek Premier League fixture, Athletic earned a good 2-1 win over Resolven despite falling a goal behind after ten minutes.
With just 15 minutes on the clock, the hosts were awarded a penalty which Jonny McClelland fired home to level.
McClelland stepped up to smash home a free-kick five minutes later to secure all three points.
