Welsh League Division Two
Ammanford’s relegation fears were finally put to bed last week after they initially received a massive boost by defeating third-bottom Cardiff Corinthians 6-2 last Tuesday.
Goals came from Alex Squires (three), Mathew Fisher, Owen James and Ashley Richards in a game that saw Ammanford take total control in the second half with the outstanding James creating chances at will.
There was even more good news on Thursday night when the Corries lost again to leave them seven points adrift of Gruff Harrison’s men with only two to play.
Ammanford, with five games remaining, now have the luxury of playing for league position rather than to avoid the threat of relegation.
On Saturday they entertain high-flying Chepstown, who should provide a stern test for Ammanford’s progress (KO 2.30pm).
Ammanford are then away for the next three matches with their final game of the season at home against Cardiff Metropolitan University on Monday, May 5.
Meanwhile, the club’s annual gentleman’s evening is set to take place at the Mountain Gate on June 14 with former Wales and Liverpool star Dean Saunders appearing as guest speaker.
Tables are available to book and auction items will be advertised in the Guardian closer to the day for pre-auction bids.
