Pyle 48 Betws 5

Betws were once again let down by a number of late withdrawals as retired players Mark Rowston and Iestyn Williams came in to fight the cause.

The game started in adventurous style as both teams attempted to spread the ball, but unfortunately for the visitors it was Pyle who opened the scoring as their wing forward seized on some loose play for a converted try.

The game took a sinister twist when the home flanker was sent off for a cynical late challenge on Betws scrum-half Nathan Murray.

However the card galvanised the homesters and their aggressive running earned them three quick tries to put them into a 26-0 lead.

Once again veteran Wayne Comely put his body on the line to orchestrate the forward charges and the rampaging prop put Nathan Murray clear before captain Paul Rees was quickly in support to supply the scoring pass to wing Steffan James for a 26-5 half time score.

The mixture of mature forwards and young back division continued to battle against the abrasive style of the homesters, and another mass brawl early in the second half saw another red for the host.

Unfortunately this two-man advantage was negated by injuries to the battered visitors, who – without substitutes - finished the game with 14 men

Betws continued to play on the back foot and missed tackles cost them a further four tries and another heavy defeat.

Commitment is now the key to Betws as they face fellow strugglers Pontardawe on Saturday in a must-win home fixture.
