Division Three West

Tumble 26 Llanelli Wanderers 58

In a match played at a furious pace with both sides looking to run with ball in hand at every opportunity, Tumble found themselves under pressure from the off.

The hosts found themselves tow tries down inside the opening ten minutes as the Wanderers freeflowing proved too much for them.

The struggling Magpies have relied on their forward platform to obtain ball and territory this season and, when they managed to work their way into the visiting 22, a succession of drives enabled scrum half Chris Davies to score in the corner after 17 minutes.

With acting captain Steve Hewitt prompting attacks with some mazy running, Tumble did pose threats as James Stephens punched holes in the carried the ball opposition cover with ball in hand.

After one such burst, Hewitt popped up with enough space to score a converted try under the posts.

From the restart however, Wanderers attacked and wing Dafydd Daniel scored the second of his three tries - running in from 50 metres.

On the stroke of half time, another flowing move from the Wanderers saw David Jenkins score a converted try.

The visitors started where they left off in the second half and, despite some resolute tackling from centre Iwan Price in midfield, they scored increased their advantage.

They added another from a five-metre scrum push.

Three tries in the space of eight minutes sealed the Magpies’ fate.

Playing for pride, young Rhys Lewis foraged and tackled manfully and his industry was rewarded when he was on hand to gather and break free to sprint for the line from 20 metres. Hewitt added the extras.

Two further tries from a rampant Wanderers exposed Tumble’s defensive frailties but the hosts kept going.

With the Magpies breaking the defence, they were awarded a succession of penalties which saw prop Tovey yellow carded.

The penalty was taken quickly and, with prop Cieran Guest charging over for Tumble’s fourth try, the bonus point was secured. Steve Hewitt added the conversion.
