Division Three West

Penclawdd 89 Tumble 0

Tumble were blown away by promotion chasing Penclawdd in a 15-try rout.

In what proved to a routine training workout for the home side, the match was effectively over as a contest within the first 13 minutes as Penclawdd went 24-0 up, securing the bonus point with their fourth try.

The Magpies had youngster Cory Hardy and Josh Morgan tackling well against strong opposition but with some slick handling and movement behind the scrum, Tumble couldn’t compete against the pace and guile of their opponents.

Full back Dan Guarneri ran in for a hat-trick of tries and conversions, two of which were from mazy running in his own half where defenders were brushed aside. Tumble won line out ball from Hefin Dumbrill and Gareth Beynon but couldn’t hang on to the ball for any length of time to test the home side.

Penclawdd on the other hand looked dangerous every time ball was in hand and, with number eight, the diminutive Richard Jones carrying well, he ended up with three tries. The Magpies turned round behind forty six points to nil at half time.

Fearing a hundred-point defeat, Tumble tackled manfully and flankers Darren Williams and Rhys Lewis were courageous in defence stopping some big marauding forwards.

A relieving kick from Tumble was run back from the home 22 and wing Kris Corbisiero ran in under the posts after 42 minutes. Try number ten came after 59 minutes when Penclawdd drove Tumble back allowing Jones the touchdown.

The restart saw the Cocklemen regain the ball and sweeping upfield with good handling, they scored through flanker Damien Williams.

The final ten minutes of the game saw Penclawdd trying to break the 100-point barrier but Tumble held out as best they could conceding four further tries, the last of which was in stoppage time.
