Division Four West

Penybanc 24 Nantgaredig 17

After observing two minutes silence in memory of Penybanc stalwart and former juniors coach Terry ‘Twm’ Evans, the hosts found themselves on the back-foot as Nant kicked an early penalty to take the lead.

Despite the conditions, Banc tried to play rugby and returning wing Luc Jenkins went close early on before an incisive break from full back Wayne Williams saw wing Christian Hughes go over.

Williams soon followed up with a try of his own after good work from centre Geraint Evans. Mathew Lloyd converted for a 12-3 half-time lead for the hosts.

Playing with the wind in the second half, Banc continued to press as acting scrum-half Wayne Price worked tirelessly to keep the Nant defence honest.

No 8 Chris Jones powered his way over for a typical try before Nant scored two quickfire tries to get them back into it.

These were nervous times for the hosts but after a delightful chip through from Jones, centre Mathew Brayley was on hand to score the bonus point try.

There were some big performances for the Tigers with the strong running Jenkins deserving of the man-of-the-match award.

Up front, prop Rhodri Jones carried hard while Carl Rees and Gethin Harris got through a ton of work. Zac Rees also gave a big half an hour when he came on in a great team performance to bounce back after a couple of losses with the watching David Moffet complimentary on the hosts’ style of play.

Penybanc travel to Lampeter next week.
