Welsh League Division Three

Barry Town United 2 Cwmamman United 3

Cwmamman produced an outstanding performance to take league favourites Barry’s perfect record at Jenner Park on Saturday and keep alive their own promotion hopes.

Notoriously slow starters, Cwm fell behind again as the hosts took the lead following a goal-mouth scramble.

But the visitors claimed a foothold and then bossed the second quarter, pegging a nervous Barry back.

A neat exchange of passes between the Cwm front two Mattew Tregembo and Andrew Bonomi set up Steve Hughes to fire home an equaliser from the edge of the box just before half-time.

Cwm shot themselves in the foot however when Liam Soroka’s audacious cross-field ball was cut out, allowing the Barry winger to cut inside and give his striker a tap in on a plate.

Soroka was able to make amends when he slotted home after good work from captain David Brown on the right fed Tregembo who in turn found Rob Shannon to set up the equaliser.

Bonomi and Tregembo’s intelligent, energetic runs earned reward when the former was scythed down unceremoniously just outside the box. Brownmanaged to get the resulting free-kick up and over the wall in time to find the net and leave the Barry keeper rooted to the spot.

With their noses in front, the Cwm back four defended like Trojans with centre backs Josh Medwin and Paul Lenihan and full backs Brown and Hughes outstanding. Craig Spring was also excellent in the engine room.

Cwmamman, who have an eye-watering backlog of fixtures – nine games in hand on leaders Llanwern – are due to entertain fourth-placed Llanelli Town at Grenig Park on Tuesday with a victory set to see them jump three places and move ahead of Town.
