Despite illness, work commitments, and a host of injuries, Cwmgors’ reshuffled side claimed a momentous bonus-point win away against one of their main title rivals.

Forwards were switched into a depleted back line with Iwan Davies and Matthew Vickers while Lee Evans slotted in at full-back from his usual outside-half berth.

Despite the enforced changes, Cwm were terrific in the first half and used their rolling maul to great effect.

After Steff Rees had opened the scoring with a second minute penalty, a typical catch-and-drive move saw forward Richard Gregg crash over for an opening try on ten minutes.

A further brace of Steff Rees penalties stretched the visitors’ advantage, and - on the stroke of half-time - the Cherries grabbed a crucial second try when an excellent take from Liam Jones was fed to Rees and some neat passing created the try for flanker Gethin Bugler in the corner. Rees converted as the interval whistle blew.

The home side, still dazed after relentless Cwm pressure, conceded again early in the second half when another catch-and-drive saw prop James Varney power over for a commanding 26-0 lead.

The icing on the cake arrived with a hardly to be expected bonus point late on as Jones went over from close range.

Cwm brought on old warhorse Roger Bugler to bolster things late on.

A last-minute consolation try for Nantyffyllon wasn’t enough to dampen Cwmgors celebrations.

Hooker Ethan Price gave a man of the match performance in another excellent Cwmgors team performance, with Rob Clive leading by example throughout.

Cwmgors will be hoping to keep the good run going at home against Briton Ferry on Saturday.
