Division Three West

Tycroes 6 Tenby 6

The top four of Division Three West came together on Saturday with Tycroes hosting Tenby while Penclawdd entertained Gorseinon.

With five teams closing in on the top, battles between the top sides are sure to prove crucial in the run-in for the top two promotion slots.

Tycroes started the game strongly and took the lead on 16 minutes when Carwyn Richards kicked a 40-metre penalty.

All the pressure in the first half came from Tycroes.

A kickable penalty midway through the first half was turned down to take a quick-tap penalty and catch the Tenby defence on the hop, but a handling error let the visitors off the hook.

Those three missed points would prove vital at the close of play as the hosts went into the break just 3-0 ahead.

Playing with a hefty breeze at their in the second half, Tenby quickly set about the task and a Jonathan Rogers penalty on 49 minutes drew them level.

The game ebbed and flowed with Tycroes denied a score when wing Mathew Davies crossed in the corner only for the referee to give a 22 drop-out when unsure whether the ball had been legally touched down.

With the game drawing to the end, a burst up field by Tycroes saw Tenby concede a penalty which Richards duly converted on seventy five minutes.

Playing time added on for injury, Steffan Davies conceded a penalty on the half-way line, Tenby opted to kick for touch and gain a foothold in the Tycroes half.

A line-out win saw them move the ball wide, but with the Tycroes line standing firm the ball was switched back.

When Anthony Stephens knocked on an interception chance Rogers slotted over the resultant penalty to level.

With Gorseinon beating Penclawdd and Pontarddulais victorious over Pontyberem only nine points now separate the top five.

Tycroes travel to Tumble next weekend.
