AFC Llwydcoed 0 Ammanford 2

Ammanford AFC continued their fine form with a 2-0 win over at Llwydcoed, thanks to a superb strike by winger Owen James.

James who tucked his effort away in the 62nd minute and helped his side carry on from where they left off after a magnificent 7-1 away win last week, but they had to finish the game with 10 men after the returning Rhys Fisher limped off with a hamstring injury.

Victory ensured Gruff Harrison’s men continued to put distance between themselves and the drop-zone.

It was the hosts who first tested the goal though as Jamie Rano comfortably saved a curling effort early on.

Ammanford got their first real attempt 20 minutes in as Matthew Fisher latched onto Ashley Richards’ rebound, only to watch his lobbed attempt bounce off the crossbar.

Despite Ammanford’s territorial advantage, it was the home side who squandered the best opportunity of the half as Rhys Morgan raced back to clear off the line after the hosts squeezed a shot under Rano.

It remained 0-0 at the interval, but the advantage swung the visitors’ way when Euros Griffiths’ steely determination to get to the back post was rewarded as he headed the opener five minutes into the second half.

Just minutes later Chris Hyde played in James whose delicate dink skimmed the post.

He soon got in on the act though, as Hyde wonderfully turned the opposition centre back before playing it out wide to the pacey winger who settled himself and then let fly from 22 yards to double the lead.

Ammanford nearly got a third when striker Richards rolled the ball into the net only to be adjudged to have strayed offside.

Dayle Selvage entered the fray to add some extra pace, but the away side soon had to adjust when captain Fisher limped off.

However, Ammanford held on to seal all three points and climb to 11th.
