Neath and District Reserves Open Cup – Round Three

Ystradgynlais 0 Bryn Rovers 2

Rovers produced their best performance for some time to ensure progress in a competition they have won for the past two seasons.

A mid-season squad reshuffle paid dividends for a Bryn side without a league win since December and, for the first time in a while, the looked comfortable in defence.

The match proved a one-sided affair with Bryn's attacking threat causing Ystrad problems throughout.

Julian Jones opened the scoring after a burst of pace saw him leave defenders trailing in his wake and he finished well over the advancing keeper.

An own-goal made it 2-0 as an Ystrad defender headed a Chris Jones corner into his own net to give Bryn a stranglehold on the game before half-time.

The visitors dominated the second half with Ystrad failing to muster a single shot on goal.

Bryn will now look to a semi-final clash with Cwm Wanderers, Giants Grave or Briton Ferry.

Adam Campbell claimed both goals for a young Bryn side in what ultimately proved a disappointing performance. Bryn find themselves enduring a tough time at present following the departure of ten of last season’s unbeaten treble-winning side.

They will be hoping to mount a strong surge towards the end of the season as they battle for a spot in the top three.
