Division Three West

Llandeilo 14 Cardigan 26

Llandeilo entertained Cardigan desperately in need of league points to avoid the possibility of finding themselves slipping into a relegation battle.

That they came away with nothing against a team that had conceded over 80 points the previous week was hugely disappointing.

Cardigan threatened little until Liam Prothero slipped on the heavy ground to leave a gap for his opposite number to go in under the posts for a converted try.

The workmanlike visitors increased their lead when their forwards rolled a maul over the line from a five-metre line out.

Llandeilo probably had the majority of possession throughout but a penalty by full back Owain Roberts was all they had to show for it until the last play of the first half, another well-controlled rolling maul finished off by talismanic No8 Daniel Thomas.

Just 8-12 down at the break and with a swirling wind more or less in their favour, the home team might have fancied their chances of taking control but a couple of penalty attempts which would have seen them into the lead went astray and it was Cardigan who scored next.

The try was converted and, although replacement Josh Archer landed two penalties for the hosts, the Cardis earned their bonus point and took away Llandeilo’s when a few missed tackles allowed their left winger to cross for a fourth converted score.

Llandeilo’s next three games see them face teams in the division's bottom four and they will be looking for better returns than this to keep them away from the danger zone.
