Gorseinon 15 Tycroes 18

After their first ding-dong encounter earlier in the season, this latest encounter between Gorseinon and Tycroes didn’t disappoint.

Gorseinon came flying out of the blocks and found themselves seven points up after only four minutes when second row Nicky Southgate rounded the Tycroes defence to score. Andrew Colwill added the extras.

Tycroes came back strong and immense pressure on the Gors line saw Tycroes outside half Dean Bromham power through some weak tackling to score. Carwyn Richards slotted the conversion.

This game seesawed from try line to try line and the next team to benefit saw Gors hooker Josh John power over from close range. Colwill missed with the conversion.

Richards reduced the deficit on 30 minutes with a well-struck penalty only to see the lead extend back, when full back Richards took out his opposite number without the ball. Colwill kicked the penalty for a 15-10 home lead going into the break.

Richards reduced the lead on 45 minutes with a huge penalty.

Tycroes were gaining momentum and after eleven phases of play Aaron Price found himself on the end of a try scoring pass. Richards missed with the extras.

With 30 minutes remaining, and Tycroes having taken the lead for the first time, a lot of rugby was still to be played but with both defences sublime in their commitment to keep each other out.

With 15 minutes remaining Gors, mounted a huge attack and worked the ball to the Tycroes try-line.

Phase after phase was repelled by quality tackling and when the Gors backs joined in to leave only three in the line a certain try looked on the cards only for the Gors scrum half to place his hands on the ball to make it live.

He was swamped by defenders for a turnover and Tycroes held on for their best win of the season.

Tycroes go up against top opposition again next week when they take on Penclawdd, kick off 2.30pm, at Cae Gelli.
