Division Three West

Tumble 0 Tenby 37

The Magpies went down to the sharp backline of visiting Tenby, but the scoreline failed to reflect the endeavours of a battling Tumble side.

Had it not been for the accurate kicking of Tenby’s Rogers, who scored 22 points, the margin between the sides would have been closer.

The early exchanges saw Tumble on the offensive with scrum-half Chris Davies making some telling breaks.

Forwards Gareth Beynon and Hefin Dumbrill carried well as did flanker Darren Williams but they squandered chances to score.

Tenby worked their way upfield and, after 13 minutes, opened their account with a well-taken Rogers penalty. The lead was increased 11 minutes later when Tumble got caught in defence and Rogers gathered the loose ball from a scrum to race over under to posts for a converted try.

Tumble’s rock solid centre Iwan Price and young Adam Davies impressed in midfield but couldn’t exploit a well-drilled visiting back line.

Half breaks unfortunately lacked support and the Seasiders looked dangerous on the counter.

With Tumble edging close to the visitors line through a series of forward drives, they lost the ball and were shunted back upfield.

Tenby disrupted the line-outs and, when Tumble were caught offside at a ruck some 20 metres out, Rogers added his second penalty.

With Tumble attacking hard in the second half, only some last ditch tackling prevented them from opening their account.

The forwards provided sufficient ball to worry the visitors but handling errors prevented a score.

Tumble pressed hard for ten minutes and, when Tenby deliberately killed the ball, the ensuing penalty some five metres out was reversed as the Magpies were overzealous in the ruck.

The ball was booted downfield, Tenby won the line-out and, with another infringement, Rogers increased their lead.

Two late converted tries from second row Dedman sealed the Magpies fate and they now face a huge game against fellow strugglers Haverfordwest next week.
