Division Three West

Gorseinon 53 Tumble 7

Tumble suffered their heaviest defeat of the season as Gorseinon romped home, scoring nine tries to a solitary effort from the Magpies.

League leaders Gorseinon made an explosive start, scoring a touchdown with their first move of the game from the kick off.

Within 12 minutes the Magpies were 19 points down from three tries, one of which was converted.

Tumble struggled to cope with a well-organised defence and, with Gorseinon attacking from broken play, they scythed through an inadequate visitors back line.

Tumble competed at the line-outs through Hefin Dumbrill and Gareth Beynon but, from what little ball was gained, they were unable to penetrate.

Lively centre Jamie Gimlett tried bursting through but a lack of support against much bigger opposition allowed turnover ball which Gors exploited fully.

With 20 minutes on the clock, the hosts scored their fifth try when wing Stoneham rounded the defence to score in the corner. Tumble’s attack relied on scrappy ball but Chris Davies at scrum-half kept Tumble going forward through some strong running and astute kicking.

With half time looming, the visitors tried attacking from their own 22 and took play up to halfway, but the ball was turned over and quick handling by Gorseinon saw them romp over for a try to make the interval score 36-0.

Three minutes after the restart the home side went further ahead with a converted try under the posts to leave Tumble’s defence in tatters.

To their credit however, the Magpies were gaining some regular ball and, with the forwards making their way upfield, they started to compete against much bigger opponents.

Replacements Steffan Owen and Jac Edwards looked sharp in defence and Gorseinon had to defend from strong mauling work from the Tumble eight.

Gradually gaining ground in home territory, Tumble broke the defence and a chip ahead was gathered by Steve Hewitt who scampered over and then converted his own try after 61 minutes.

Tumble continued to frustrate Gorseinon who only managed two further tries when the visitors went down to 14 men with ten minutes remaining.

Tumble now find themselves involved in a relegation dogfight and points against Tenby and Haverfordwest in their next two home games are likely to prove crucial.
