Students from Llandovery College and a number of town residents are set to take part in a charity swim.

The event will see every team member swim for an hour before the overall distance is calculated.

The results from all around the country will then be collated so that teams and individuals can see how they compare to others in the UK.

“The swim is part of ChallengeAid, which looks to promote health and fitness throughout the UK by motivating schools, universities, corporate groups and individuals to undertake physical challenges,” said Llandovery swimming coach John Penman.

“The aim of ChallengeAid is to take children out of poverty through education in some of the worst slums in Africa.

“This unique concept is both an alternative and complementary type of education which allows many children who are unable to attend school during the day to be able to continue their studies at night through the Schools of Hope programme.”

The event, organised by the British Long Distance Swimming Association is open to all ages, our swimmers range from nine to 60+.

This will be taking place on Monday 10th February at Llandovery swimming pool, commencing at 6.30.pm.

Volunteers are welcome to come along and invigilate or just support the swimmers.
