Division Four South West
Vardre 44 Betws 7
Betws optimism after a series of good results was blown away by a poor performance at mid-table Vardre.
The hosts opened the scoring after only two minutes when the home full-back was allowed to run from his own half on a long-range counter to score.
Betws were also playing against the elements in a stormy, opening quarter and the homesters took advantage to put themselves 17 points up in as many minutes.
Vardre dominated set pieces and put the game beyond the visitors with two late tries in the half from close-range scrums.
In the second half the weather settled allowing the homesters to continue to apply the pressure. However they only added a further penalty until injuries saw the visitors finish the game with 14 men in the final quarter.
The numerical advantage enabled Vardre to add two further tries before Betws finished with a late consolation try from scrum-half Steffan James, converted by outside-half Daniel Madge.
Betws Seconds suffered a similar heavy league defeat to neighbours Amman Quins, but were also hampered by a depleted squad and played the entire game with 13 men.
