Division Four South West

Cwmtwrch 0 Cwmgors 32

The Division Four South West leaders maintained their one-point advantage at the top of the table with a comfortable-enough bonus-point victory at bottom of the table Cwmtwrch, who remain without a point to their name.

Proceedings were delayed by ten minutes when a storm of Biblical proportions saw the referee sending the players for cover, but when the action finally got underway, a predictably forward-dominated match ensued.

With the backs taking a rear seat at times, and in extremely windy conditions, outside-half Steff Rees opened the scoring with a second minute penalty.

Some excellent forward retention from Cwmgors then sucked in the home defence for Rees to finish off under the posts.

The marauding visiting pack then got on their bikes once again, and from a line-out, a catch-and-drive resulted in No8 Richard Gregg crashing over in the corner.

A big shove by a dominant front eight then created an opportunity for centre Lee Howells to take the try-scoring pass, dabbing down under the posts. Rees, inevitably, added the conversion.

On the stroke of half-time, Cwmgors claimed the bonus point as scrum-half Caron Jones scurried in around the blindside of a scrum for the crucial fourth try and a commanding 27-0 half-time lead.

The visitors failed to leave up to their first half domination after the break thanks to a strength-sapping combination of playing up the slope into a very strong wind and in ever-worsening underfoot conditions.

The leaders did go close to breaching the Cwmtwrch try-line several times without reward, until late on, when some neat inter-passing saw Rees and man of the match Darryl John combine before the latter streaked in at the corner some five minutes from time.

After the Six Nations break, Cwmgors return to action with a Swalec Bowl last 16 fixture at Pyle on Saturday, February 15.
