The next generation of Llandeilo’s rugby stars are already making a name for themselves having qualified for the finals of the National Urdd seven-a-side tournament for the second year in succession.

The squad from Ysgol Gymraeg Teilo Sant saw off the likes of Ysgol Dewi Sant in Llanelli, Ysgol Bro Banw in Ammanford and Llangennech Juniors, scoring nine tries in the process.

The victories ensured the Towy Valley youngsters will now take their place at the finals in Aberystwyth.

The sporting success rounded off a great week for Teilo Sant after the school was given the maximum Five-Star Award in the Real Schools Guide - a nationally recognised guide of all primary school in Wales.

The award put the school in the top four percent n Wales, with its Foundation Phase placed in the top one percent.

Headteacher Roy James said: "For our rugby team to qualify for the National Urdd finals, and for the school to be awarded the highest rating, caps off an exceptional week for us.

“We are extremely proud of our pupils."
