Llandovery College started off the new term with a bang by beating both Brynteg CS and Llanishen HS with something to spare, writes Huw S Thomas
In a Colleges league game played in horrendous conditions, the Llandovery pack dominated exchanges against Bridgend’s Brynteg CS and fashioned the first try from a driving line out.
Lock Jakob Jones drove over to allow full back Jac Evans to convert and another driving line-out saw skipper and hooker Dafydd Hughes grab the second try.
The skipper – recently named in Rugby World’s All Stars Team of the Term – then made a try for centre Jack Griffiths, converted from the touchline through rain and wind by centre Ben Phillips to seal an excellent 19-0 away win.
The Lilywhites scored a point more in beating Cardiff visitors Llanishen HS by 20-5.
They trailed to an interception try but reached half time in a 7-5 lead, thanks to a try by impressive back row Alex Grey, converted by Phillips.
Phillips and fly half James Davies added penalties after the break and with dominance of the contact area Llandovery sealed the win.
Wing Elis Staines chipped ahead, gathered and fed the close supporting Phillips who crossed for a try converted by Davies.
