Division Three West

Tumble 13 Llandeilo 17

Although picking up a losing bonus point, Tumble will be far from happy with a disappointing defeat by the Ravens of Llandeilo.

The hosts struggled to cope with the intensity and pace of a lively pack and only some stern tackling from captain Hefin Dumbill along with flankers Darren Williams and Sean Farmer prevented an early score.

The Magpies defended for most of the half and, although winning good ball from the line-outs through the giant Gareth Beynon, what gains were made were ponderous and indecisive.

Llandeilo’s full back Owain Roberts missed several relatively easy kicks to punish the Magpies and after 30 minutes play, the scores were level.

Tumble had Gimblett yellow carded and with Roberts missing the penalty, the hosts looked to drop-out. The ball was taken by Gareth Morgan to set up a ruck.

With the ball quickly sped wide, centre Liam Protheroe waltzed through some woeful defence to score in the corner.

The restart found Llandeilo's George Plowman take the ball on his ten-metre line and, although held by three Tumble forwards, he brushed though them to find wing Ceitho Williams in support to run in from 40 metres.

Deep into stoppage time, Tumble’s Steve Hewitt kicked a penalty to reduce arrears.

The second half saw the Magpies forwards start to dominate as Llandeilo struggled with the forward drive.

Transgressing for killing the ball, Williams received a yellow card and Tumble’s penalty allowed them a line-out eight metres out. The Magpies then drove at the visiting defence and Beynon got a converted try to draw level.

After 57 minutes Tumble took the lead when Hewitt landed a good 35-metre effort. His opposite number hit the upright with his attempt five minutes later.

Eight minutes remained when Tumble again failed to keep the visitors out due to poor tackling, the defence was breached and replacement back Luke Williams rounded the cover defence to score a converted try.

Llandeilo held on to achieve a fine win against a dispirited Tumble.
