More than 400 pupils and members of staff from Ysgol Maes y Gwendraeth joined teams from Ysgol Bro Morgannwg, Ysgol Bro Edern and Corpris Christy to celebrate a successful day during their annual Autumn Series rugby matches, held at Ysgol Bro Morgannwg and Corpris Christy.

The aim of the event was to provide the pupils the opportunity to experience rugby in either a participatory or spectator manner as well as allowing organisers to encourage greater numbers of youngsters to become involved in the sport.

A great time was had by all who attended to showcase their skills and afterwards watch Wales beat Tonga at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Trophies were awarded to the winning teams in each age group with Ysgol Maes y Gwendraeth's Year Seven, Year Eight and Year Nine teams all claiming a trophy. Ysgol Bro Morgannwg scooped the Year Ten trophy.

The event was completely staffed by voluntary teachers with a special thanks going to those who were brave enough to referee the matches – not an easy task. Special thanks to Corpris Christie, Ysgol Bro Edern and Ysgol Bro Morgannwg Physical Education departments for providing facilities and referees to help make the day a success.

Ysgol Maes y Gwendraeth's PE department would like to extend a special vote of thanks to the many who contributed to the success of the day, with transport provided from Brodyr Williams.

"Generous teachers are the key to our success and make it possible for us to provide the pupils with a safe environment, where they can learn new skills, make new friends and watch rugby of the highest standard," said a school spokesman.

"We hope that we can count on their support to help us in the future."
