Division Three West

Haverfordwest 7 Tycroes 15

Tycroes travelled to Haverfordwest as they returned to league action after the international lay-off.

The visitors got off to a fantastic start as flanker John Ogden hit a perfect line to accept a short ball off scrum-half Matthew James and crash over to score after only six minutes.

Carwyn Richards stepped up to slot over the conversion.

Haverfordwest battled their way back into the game, taking the ball on and rampaging towards the Tycroes line.

They levelled the match on 17 minutes when Jon Mason burst through for a score and Ashley Sutton added the extras.

The west Walians came more and more into the game, but stout Tycroes defending was able to keep them at bay.

A Richards penalty pushed Tycroes into a 10-7 lead at the interval.

Both teams battled hard to claim the upper hand at the beginning of the second period, but a series of handling errors from both sides brought an end to any attempts at running rugby.

Tycroes earned themselves a series of penalties to inch their way downfield where quick ball found its way to the visiting backs.

Dean Bromham launched a cross-field kick where Jonathan Tancock was able to leap and claim the ball before offloading to debutant Chris Lemon who raced into the corner to score. Richards fluffed his lines with the conversion, but Tycroes had edged further in front.

Lemon, and fellow new signing Ian Cooper were prominent in defence and slotted neatly into place alongside their team-mates.

Next week, Tycroes travel to Llanybydder for a previously cancelled fixture.
