Ammanford Seconds 17 Penybanc Seconds 5

With both sides undefeated so far this season, something just had to give as the second strings of Ammanford and Penybanc came together.

It was the hosts who proved more determined to prove it would not be them that blinked first.

Ammanford started strongly with the visitors not seeing much of the ball during the first quarter.

The hosts scored their first try after 20 minutes and, after dominating throughout the opening period, were awarded a penalty near the posts.

Banc were caught napping when Ammanford No8 Richard Knight took a quick tap-penalty to score just before the interval and Dan Williams converted to ensure the hosts enjoyed a 12-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw Penybanc dominate, and they got their points through a try scored out wide.

It was Ammanford’s turn to feel the heat for long periods, but the turning point came when Banc winger Hywel Thomas was yellow-carded at a ruck.

Ammanford took advantage to score a long-range try after a break from their own 22.

When the ball reached the half-way line, full-back Rhys Davies was the first to reach the kick-and-chase to score.

Ammanford were able to shut out the remainder of the game with outside-half Aled Parry keeping the hosts in control thanks to some excellent kicking.

Victory ensured Ammanford go into the Christmas break at the top of the table.
