Ystradgynlais 34 Alltwen 15

Ystradgynlais produced one of their finest performances to secure a bonus point victory over Alltwen.

The boys from down the valley have proved a thorn in the Blues side over recent seasons, but Ystrad began strongly with a driving maul that allowed Mathew Owen to cross over for the opening score.

The second row doubled his account minutes later with an almost duplicate try from another driving line out.

Alltwen reacted positively and earned a deserved penalty.

Poor handling had frustrated Ystrad in the first half hour but they made amends with a superbly worked try to put full back Tom Blizzard over in the corner for a 15-3 interval score.

Ystradgynlais failed to take advantage of a bonus point, stalling on three tries, but fortunately Alex De Melvader calmed any concerns after chasing a hacked kick to score in the corner.

A dominant scrum and aggressive defence certainly gave the Blues an edge around the park against a very competitive Alltwen.

Two further tries soon followed for the Blues for wingers Liam Harris and Kieran Ace. Blizzard rediscovered his kicking ability to convert both tries.

The last ten minutes however belonged to Alltwen, boosted by player coach Kristian Walsh coming in to their midfield from the bench. They began attacking from all areas of the field creating two very good tries.

Victory ensured Ystrad remain second in the table.
