Sunnybank 3 Ynysmeudwy Athletic 1

Ynysmeudwy Athletic travelled to Sunnybank in the Neath Premier League and went down to an early goal from the hosts, who doubled their advantage before the interval.

Athletic battled back with a goal from Huw Beynon, but were left to count the cost of some missed opportunities.

The cause was not helped when they went down to ten men and, despite some sterling defensive efforts, they failed to hold out and Bank ultimately ran out comfortable winners.

Ynys travel to Glynneath Town on Saturday (KO 2.30pm).

Athletic’s Reserves hosted Glynneath in Reserve Division One and went on a goal rampage, running out 9-4 winners in a thrilling contest.

Dylan Jones claimed a hat-trick, man-of-the-match Calum Jones bagged two as did Tom Jones and there were further goals from James Fox and Josh Danaher.

Saturday sees the Reserves host Cwm Wanderers (KO 2.30pm).

Meanwhile, in the second round of the Neath Reserve Open Cup, holders Bryn Rovers advanced to quarter-finals after an easy 4-0 win over Ystradgynlais.

Man-of-the-match Carwyn Sheldon played the pass of the season to split the defence for the energetic Christian Jones to opening the scoring and the lead was doubled when Dan Richards headed home his seventh of the season from a Karl Jones corner.

After the interval, Ystrad enjoyed a good 15-minute spell but failed to muster any real chances.

Sheldon scored Bryn's third before goalkeeper Arwel Davies scored a late penalty to seal the win.
