Division Three
Llantwit Major 1 Cwmamman United 4
After a three-week gap without a league game, Cwm were eager to close the gap at the top of the table.
The visitors began like a house on fire and went ahead after only three minutes when Neil Phillips’ 40-yard pass found Dai Brown on the touchline before man-of-the-match Liam Soroka centred for Andrew Bonomi, back from a three-game suspension, pulled off a stunning bicycle-kick past the despairing keeper.
Soroka’s pace again caused problems minutes later and when he was upended in the box, Brown slotted home the penalty.
Young Rhydian Jones, deputising for the absent O’Brien, was forced off through injury with only ten minutes gone, but on came the exciting Liam Hughes.
Exploiting gaps, Cwm thought they had a third when Matthew Tregembo chipped the advancing keeper only for a dubious offside flag to rule the effort out.
Llantwit grabbed a goal from a corner before half-time.
With a rollicking ringing in their ears, Cwmamman came out with all guns blazing after the break and it was only a matter of time before a third arrived.
After wave after of wave of attacks, Brown popped up on the left to put in a dangerous ball which Soroka pounced on to volley home from the edge of the area.
Cwm should have further added to their tally, but a series of good chances went begging before they finally wrapped up the points ten minutes from time when Soroka spotted the keeper off his line and volleyed home from just inside his own half to seal matters.
The win takes United up to fifth with four games in hand on leaders Llanwern.
