Division Two

Caerleon 1 Ammanford 1

Ammanford, desperate for points and fourth from bottom, with five players unavailable took a depleted squad to Caerleon who are also floundering in the bottom quarter of the division.

A heavy pitch ensured things proved difficult for Ammanford but they adapted well from the kick-off and had a chance to score when Rhys Owen headed just wide form a corner.

Minutes later Owen James put in a great cross but it was scrambled clear.

Things then went wrong for the visitors as a long-range free-kick found its way into the back of the Ammanford net.

They were forced to defend against a dominant Caerleon but somehow held out with Owen putting in a last-gasp tackle that earned him a booking 20 minutes into the second half.

Ammanford were finally rewarded for their willingness to battle for every ball in the 89th minute when, starting in their own half, Sam Wilson broke clear and put in an inch perfect pass for James to strike at goal.

His effort was deflected into the path of Ollie Ardelino who volleyed in for a quality goal to earn Ammanford a precious point.

On Saturday, Ammanford host Penrhiwceiber Rangers, (KO 2pm).

There will also be an evening of entertainment at the cricket club and all support would be most welcome.
