Lauryn eyes Glasgow podium finish

Llandybie athletics champion Lauryn Davey will be aiming for a podium finish when she represents Wales at the UK Schools Championship in Glasgow on December 14.
The 14-year-old Year Nine Ysgol Dyffryn Aman pupil from Maidens Grove will go up against the brightest names in schoolgirl athletics in the gruelling combined events programme, which is made up of sprint hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot putt and the 800 metres.
Although her team are holding back on making any big pronouncements ahead of the competition – not least as Davey will be lining up alongside English champion Anna Rowe, from Liverpool, who runs a world-class standard 800 metres, as well as a number of other hugely talented youngsters from England, Scotland and Ireland – there is quiet optimism ahead of the contest.
And with the reigning Welsh Schools and Welsh Athletic Clubs combined events champion in good form, there appears every reason to think that optimism could be justified.
As a warm-up to the event, the Carmarthen Harriers star was presented with a special award to commemorate her Welsh call-up and in honour of becoming Welsh champion by World and European Championship medallist Christian Malcolm.
Lauren also represents Wales in the high jump.
