Welsh Youth Cup - Second Round

Ammanford U16s 3 Cwrt Herbert Colts 1

Ammanford defeated Cwrt Herbert Colts 3-1 thanks to a brace from Tim Chapman in a comfortable Welsh Cup win, writes Nick Davies.

It was Chapman who opened the scoring with just three minutes on the clock when he coolly slotted the ball past the Colts keeper at his near post after being played in behind the defence.

Soon after, it seemed as if the visitors were set to equalise only for an acrobatic bicycle-kick clearance from centre back Steffan Garland to put paid to the danger when goalkeeper Jac Isaac was beaten with a neat lob.

The away side were made to rue their missed opportunity when Chapman got his second of the game when a corner fell to his feet and he duly poked home after 15 minutes.

It was 3-0 before the break as Grant Stamp crossed in after brilliant work down the left, and Dafydd Griffiths prospered in the six-yard box with a tap-in.

Ammanford’s lead was almost reduced however when Cwrt Herbet rattled the post with a shot, only for Isaac to smoother the ball at the second opportunity.

After the interval, Ammanford were ruthless going forward but lacked the finishing to match. Midfielder Aaron Butler was played in only for his shot to be stopped and Stamp was denied a minute later.

The hosts remained in control throughout, but were wasteful when opportunities arose.

Stamp chipped over when one-on-one and Chapman missed two decent opportunities for his hat-trick; the first was a saved low shot and the second ended in a mix-up between two players as neither took the chance to shoot.

Cwrt Herbert pegged Ammanford back to 3-1 when a free-kick was touched in past the stranded Isaac.

Substitute Tommy Roberts almost made an instant impact when his delightful pass to Butler split the Colts defence only for Butler to chip over just before the final whistle.
