Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup

Third Round

Ely Rangers 1 Cwmamman United 7

Cwmamman booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Nathanial Car Sales League Cup with a fine display against a side placed fourth in Division Two and who ousted First Division pair Monmouth and Taffs Well in previous rounds.

After a humbling defeat to Village last week, Cwm began on the front foot and went ahead inside two minutes as Dai Brown and Matthew Tregembo combined well to find Liam Hughes who shrugged off two defenders to put the ball past the keeper.

Ely were rattled and never recovered.

Cwm’s second on ten minutes saw Tregembo race onto Steve Hughes’ through ball. His shot parried, only for the ball to fall at the feet of man of the match Craig Springer who volleyed home.

Tregembo then rapped the woodwork before the midfield of Brown, Steve Hughes, Springer and Liam Soroka began to dominate.

Cwm added a third when Tregembo was rewarded for all his hard work on the half hour from Soroka’s centre.

Tregembo and Liam Hughes’ pace and link up play was all too much for the Ely defence and, after Tregembo was upended, Brown dispatched the spot-kick – this after Cwm had missed their last three penalties.

Michal Rybycki replaced the injured Hughes for the second half before which underperforming Rangers had received a right-rollicking after a 4-0 halftime deficit.

Ely did fare better after the interval, but Cwm’s back four held firm.

Cwm, who welcomed back Mark Snell after six weeks out with a broken arm, went further ahead when Springer’s pass found Soroka, whose deft cross was volleyed home by Tregembo.

A route-one ball helped Ely grab a consolation, but Cwm then brought on impressive youngster Rhydian Jones, who superb cross set up Tregembo for a bullet-header that marked his second hat-trick of the season.

Rampant Cwm could have hit double figures, and it was no surprise when Spring pounced on a loose ball, spun on a sixpence and slotted home a seventh.

A clinical display by the visitors, particularly in light of their disappointing showing the previous week.
