Division Four South West
Cwmgors 69 Cwmtwrch 0
Cwmgors again ran riot again to record a second thumping victory and stake their claim as serious early contenders at the top of Division Four South West with another emphatic win.
Cwmtwrch have seen numerous personnel changes over the summer, but came to play and battled well for large periods against a confident Cherries side.
Cwmgors, who have now scored 141 in two games – conceding just three in the process, were soon in the ascendency however and blindside flanker Rob Clive went over from close range to record the opening try.
They continued to apply the pressure, and impressive second row Liam Jones soon added to their tally with a fine brace of scores, including a smart dummy to create himself space.
Outside-half Steff Rees got in on the act with a superb break from his 25, which took him clean through under the posts.
Gors secured the bonus point in double quick time before adding further tries before the interval with prop James Varney crashing over and Lloyd Watson grabbing a trademark touchdown after a slick back-line move.
Rees converted three of his side’s half dozen first half tries.
Turning around 36-0, Cwmtwrch were always going to find it hard to get a foothold, but tackled bravely and did have small periods of attacking play, only to find the Cwmgors rearguard in no mood to concede.
Tries continued at regular enough intervals in the second half.
Rees cruised over for another, while No8 Richard Gregg and winger Carwyn Lewis also added their names to the board.
Lock Liam Jones celebrated his hat-trick try before winger Mike Hodges rounded off the day.
Rees converted four of the second half tries.
Even though he was one of the few not to get among the Cwmgors tryscorers, 18-year-old flanker Iwan Davies, one of the successful Cwmgors Youth products, was deservedly named man of the match.
The Cherries will expect a sterner challenge when they visit Cwmavon on Saturday.
