Second Qualifying Round
Garden Village 4 Ammanford 3 (aet)
Ammanford enjoyed a dream start and scored a first minute goal through Luke Squires, but the advantage was short-lived when some inept defending allowed Village in for an equaliser on ten minutes.
The visitors deservedly went ahead on 43 minutes when Alex Squires was felled in the box and Owen James made no mistake from the spot kick.
But for all their good work going forward, Ammanford were again undone at the back as some atrocious defending let Village back into the game with another goal five minutes into injury at the end of the first half.
Ammanford were awarded a second penalty on 50 minutes when James was brought down. The hitman took the kick himself to put the visitors into the lead for the third time, but it was not to be and again Village were gifted a way back into the game when the visitors failed to defend a corner with 15 minutes remaining.
Village made the most of the mix-up and made no mistake in firing home from close range.
In a game that swung back and forth, Ammanford were again handed the advantage when the hosts had a man sent off on 80 minutes.
The visitors surely felt the games was theirs for the taking when Village threw away a golden opportunity when they won a penalty but saw their effort strike the crossbar.
But it was Village, who are not sharing top spot in the league for nothing, took heart and dominated play despite being a man down.
With the game going into extra time, Ammanford had the chance to clinch matters when they were awarded a third penalty on 112 minutes, but James spurned his chance of the hat-trick that would have seen the visitors progress when he blazed over the bar.
It proved a costly miss and three minutes later Village claimed the vital goal.
Things went from bad to worse for Ammanford as they saw two players sent off in the dying moments – decisions which may well come back to haunt them when the subsequent suspensions impact on the return to league action.
