Cymmer 67.25 Gwaun cae Gurwen 43
The Waun travelled to Cymmer to play their penultimate game of the season and again found themselves short of numbers.
Despite having beaten Cymmer at home some three weeks previously they knew that they would be up against it, particularly as they went into the fixture three men down.
After the first five ends the scores were level at 9-9 which was a surprise to the Waun as they were playing on what they all considered to be the heaviest green they had played on all season.
After ten ends, when the tea break was taken, Cymmer led 22–18.
As so often happens, the break can prove crucial and this was indeed the case for Waun as the hosts took full advantage of the interval.
Cymmer had jumped into a healthy 43–27 lead after 15 ends and completed the game in fine fashion, running out comfortable 67.25-43 winners.
The result saw Cymmer pick up 12 points to the Waun’s two and guaranteed the hosts promotion at the end of the season at GcG’s expense.
However the Waun players can take pride in the fact that they have overcome the numerous obstacles throughout the campaign and have never once failed to provide a team - even though they were only able to field 13 or 14 players for most of the season.
Next season looks promising with the probability that they may have up to five additional players to strengthen their squad.
Next week the Waun play their last game of the season when they host Briton Ferry Town.
