WITH the sides eyeing a home quarterfinal against Nantyglo, it was Wattstown who came out of the blocks the strongest.

Tycroes’ cause was not helped when flanker John Ogdenwas sin-binned in the first minute for a tip tackle and the hosts scored a converted try from the resulting penalty.

On 22 minutes the hosts added another converted try before they were awarded a penalty try after several driving mauls.

On the stroke of half-time a kick ahead by Tycroes’ Mikey Hopkins led to an Aaron Price score, Grant Williams’ conversion ensured Wattstownwent into the break 21-14 ahead.

After the interval a Tycroes penalty closed the gap to just four points but a penalty and late converted try sealed it for the hosts.

Tycroes host Llanybydder in the league on Friday, March 15.
