Division Three West

ON A glorious afternoon at Cae William, Llandeilo took revenge for their frustrating 14-13 defeat at Milford in October and put some much-needed distance between themselves and the relegation dogfight.

Flanker Matthew Davies got things off to a flying start, claiming the quickest Llandeilo try in recent memory by going under the posts to finish off a move straight off the training ground after just 30 seconds.

The Blacks enjoyed the majority of first half possession and territory and the visitors had to wait until the last kick for their first scoring opportunity, a penalty by impressive teenage outside-half Joe Kiff.

By then, however, Llandeilo had added further tries by Number 8 Daniel Thomas and scrum half Emyr Thomas while skipper Celfyn Davies’ two conversions made Llandeilo good value for their 19-3 interval lead.

The second half began in similar fashion to the first, albeit without the fireworks.

Osian Williams, improving with every game in his adopted role at outside-half, had an outstanding 40 minutes, breaking the line several times, putting in important tackles on the big Milford forwards and securing a number of turnovers.

The first of his breaks, from halfway resulted in a classy individual score in the corner and the Blacks’ first try bonus point of the season.

Although Milford battled hard, they threatened very little.

A mix-up at a defending scrum allowed winger Tom Bullivant to cross for their try, converted by Kiff, but that was it for the visitors with Llandeilo comfortable from there on in, running in a further four tries.

Winger Aled Jenkins was the main beneficiary, crossing for a hat-trick, before generously donating what would have been his fourth to supporting second row Rob Hughes. Hughes converted with the last kick of the game.

Llandeilo are three-quarters of the way through a crucial run of games against the teams around them in the bottom half of the table and have so far amassed almost 120 points including 12 tries, gathering 13 league points out of a possible 15.

The Blacks host Cardigan on March 23.
