AS HAS been the norm in recent seasons, Baglan arrived at Cwmgors without a recognised front row and opted for passive scrums.
In-form Cwm took the lead through a Steff Rees penalty and soon went up through the gears as some excellent passing among the backs sawcentre Mike Hodges run in for a try, Rees converting.
Following their sharp start, the Cherries’ forwards took the upper hand in the rucks and mauls and recycled well.
Soon enough scrumhalf Lee Evans scampered over in the corner, Rees converting superbly from the touchline.
Cwmgors, missing a number of regulars through injury, brought in Amman United’s Gavin Madge on permit.
The winger soon got involved and masterminded a sharp break before chipping neatly ahead and finishing off in the corner for a 22-0 lead.
Baglan’s backs finally got into the game and grabbed a welcome try just before half-time.
The hosts claimed the all-important bonus point when Hodges’ incisive run from 25 yards took him under the posts, Rees converting, before Baglan added a penalty try.
Normal service was resumed with a try from Lloyd Watson.
With the result safe, Cwm made a few unforced errors in the latter stages, allowing the visitors two late tries and a consolation losing bonus point.
Prop Rhodri Rees put in a man-of-the-match display while veteran Roger Bugler came out of retirement to rally to the cause.
