Premier League Two

DINEFWR suffered their second consecutive loss since the break, despite dominating possession and territory against the students of Cardiff Metropolitan.

However, the hosts’ lack of a cutting edge returned to haunt them as they failed to make the most of numerous efforts on goal.

Dinefwr pressed from the start and the students were forced on to the back foot, but reacted well with a strong defensive showing.

The opening 20 minutes were to prove a seesaw affair as possession swung from one side to the other without either making any in-roads to goal.

Both sides earned first half penalties but neither was able to capitalise.

Slowly the students managed to gain a foothold, enjoying prolonged periods of control and possession.

In one passage, the visitors smartly switched play to open up the home defence.

The students made the most of their chance and found a gap in the Dinefwr formation to allow them to break through the back line and claim the only goal just before the half-time whistle.

Determined to mount a fight-back, Dinefwr man-ofthe- match Danielle Murray made a string of impressive solo breaks through centre field but was unable to take advantage.

Alison Jones also put in a strong performance in midfield and created an opportunity for the hosts to level, but it was not to be.

Dinefwr continued pressing throughout the second half and Cardiff looked to hit them on the counter, but both defences stood firm and prevented any further goals to leave the visitors to snatch a marginal victory.

Victory saw the Met leapfrog Dinefwr into fourth on goal difference with both sides on 19 points, albeit with the students having a game in hand.

On Saturday Dinefwr travel to second-placed Haverfordwest hoping to end their losing run and improve on the 2-2 home draw they managed against the Pembrokeshire side earlier in the campaign.
