Carmarthen Tyres League AWS Division Two

AN ENCOURAGING performance from the young homesters saw Panty climb to fifth in the league, still five points behind the visitors.

With the newly-formed academy providing four players, Panty’s younger legs were able to run the visitors about in the first half on a surprisingly firm surface at Cae Maimo, where the tireless groundstaff had worked a miracle to ensure the game went ahead.

Panty scored three quickfire tries through Stu Sutherland and Lee Griffiths while wily old fox Anthony Mainwaring added two conversions.

As the pitch became ever heavier, the Stars were able to get more into the game through some direct running and the tight play of their big, abrasive pack.

The visitors fought back well and had levelled the scores just before the break.

As conditions deteriorated the second half passed by without a score from either side and a draw was probably a fair result as both teams gave their all.

Panty’s man-of-the-match was young prop Chris Bowen who proved a rock at scrum time as well as adding 14 bone-crunching hits to halt the Stars’ fightback in its tracks.
