Llangennech 13 Ammanford 14

Division One West

AN AWAY trip to Llangennech was always going to be a tense encounter and from the outset two very young teams scrapped for possession, numerous mistakes and handling errors ensuring a dour spectacle for a generous crowd.

Ammanford attacked from the kick-off but Llangennech took the lead against the run of play when outside half Rhodri Jones converted a penalty.

With Llangennech camped on their own line Jones chose to run and set free the dangerous Ellis Phillips who raced clear, only to be denied by a Chris Moore tackle, but the lead was doubled when over-eager Ammanford were lured offside and Jones again landed a penalty.

Ammanford rallied and Tomos Ellis Williams and Dylan Morgan set up a great attacking position.

The ball was moved to Mike Evans who was poleaxed by a dangerously high tackle. The ensuing penalty was converted to get Ammanford on the board.

Ammanford again swept forward and Williams stormed down the wing and passed inside to the supporting Moore, wholost the ball over the line.

Llangennech cleared and gained good field position which they exploited to the full, creating an opening for scrum half Rhys Lane to score a try, converted by Jones.

Ammanford’s Llyr Morris took the restart and set up a midfield burst with Cooper and Evans. The ballwas quickly recycled and wing Gary Stephens finished in the corner to bring the score to 13–8.

Ammanford dominated territory and possession early in the second half and reduced the lead with another Morris penalty.

Further pressure told on the home team and Morris converted another penalty to put Ammanford ahead.

Llangennech were later gifted a golden opportunity to steal the game but Jones failed with a penalty attempt.
