LLANDEILO AND DISTRICT GARDENING CLUB - Llandeilo and District Gardening Club were treated to a delightful talk last month from Laura Bean, a qualified and experienced herbalist from Myddfai. She gave a brief of history of the Myddfai physicians and then began to discuss some of the valued herbs that as gardeners we know as “weeds”. As she talked we were able to crush and smell some of the herbs she had brought in willow baskets. The audience happily contributed some of their remembered remedies. All the while a gentle infusion was brewing and Lara then demonstrated a simple way to make gardeners salve to help heal those hard working hands. It was a charming evening and a reminder to us all to value every plant, even those pesky nettles and goose grass. Fittingly at our next meeting on Thursday, December 6, Natasha De Vere from National Botanic Garden of Wales will talk about Bar Code Wales, a project to unravel the DNA of every plant in Wales.

Llandeilo and District Gardening Club meet on the first Thursday of the month at 7:30pm at the Civic Hall, Llandeilo. For more information contact Roy Kinnell on 01558 823808, Stella Taylor on 07837426636 or visit our web site at www.llandeilogardeningclub.co.uk.
