Twenty five members and friends of the Wildlife Trust joined members of the Llanelli Naturalists to visit Tireithin farm on the ridge separating the Gwendaeth rivers above Bancffosfelen near Pontyberem.

Led by Sue Matthews of Treithen, the party ascended the fields above the farm, crossing the source of the Bere, until arriving at a field which earlier - as could be seen clearly by all the seed heads around -must have been carpet of common spotted orchid but were now yellow over more large areas with the relatively uncommon, beautiful bog asphodel. Among other damp loving species occupying them, the highlight was a couple of cranberry plants just showing their berries.

Future events include the Wildlife Trust's meeting at 9pm on Saturday July 25 at Gelli Aur Country Park.

On Saturday August 8 at 2pm all are welcome to meet to visit the varied habitats of the Mynydd Mawr Country Park. Further details can always be had on 01558 822152.
