The Civic hall is delighted to be the venue for Helen Adam’s new work “Merch y Felin”, The Maid of the Mill, on Saturday, November 22 at 8pm with pre-performance drumming workshop. ‘Merch y Felin’ is written for five piece Celtic band, percussion orchestra and narrator. It is a love story set against the conflict between the old country folk of the Welsh hills, and the pioneers of the textile industry in the mid- nineteenth century.

Helen Adam creates a unique, multi-layered tone world, with haunting and uplifting melodies, and energising rhythms. The band comprises violin/viola, accordion/keyboard, bass, flute and varied percussion from oodu and talking drum to full kit for the funky last movement, which will have the audience joining in a clapping sequence. Percussionist Justin Fellows with Helen Adam will take a pre-performance workshop in which they will teach the rhythms of the spinning mule, devil, teaser, waterwheel and looms.

The workshop takes place between 5pm–7pm, the participants will then join in the final show. For more details or to book the show contact Helen Adam email helenadamday@aol.com or phone 07929 202257/01269 850297.
